Berberis Darwinii - 14cm

Berberis darwinii, Darwin's barberry, is a dense evergreen shrub with glossy small leaves and bright seasonal flowers followed by dark berries. Its upright, well-branched habit makes it useful for screening, hedging and mixed borders, while the flowers and fruit can also bring wildlife value. Mature plants can reach around 2.5 to 4m high and wide, so it is best treated as a substantial shrub rather than a low border plant. The thorny branch structure can be an advantage in defensive hedging but should be considered carefully around narrow paths and children's play areas.
